Pinewood Springs Fire Mitigation & Fuels Reduction

The report Is Wildfire Really a
Problem in Larimer County? says "A
recent study ranked Larimer County as the most hazardous
County in Colorado for wildfire hazards. An earlier
report ranked Larimer County second. Both studies
indicate the potential of wildfire to burn structures
and threaten lives in the County is high and will only
continue to grow as more and more people move to the
mountains."
Now is time to evaluate the defensible space around your house to be sure that your house is safer from the possible destruction that can be caused by wildfire. Wildfire mitigation can often involve easy-to-do yard maintenance such as mowing tall grass, raking pine needles or moving your woodpile. Other times it can include limbing low-hanging branches or thinning trees, or removing highly-flammable vegetation.
Sue Pinkham, an Interagency Wildfire Educator, offers wildfire mitigation site surveys. She can come to your house and consult with you about what you can do to improve your house's defensible space. The service she offers is at no cost to you, as she is paid by the agencies she represents. She is an excellent resource.
An appointment can be made by e-mailing spinkham@estes.org or by calling (970) 577-3682. Encourage your neighbors to take advantage of a free defensible space survey, too, to protect your land all the more.
