Community Training Classes

In our rural mountain community it is important for us to be able to assist one another in times of need.

Your Pinewood Springs Fire Protection District (PSFPD) is pleased to offer Community Training to residents of our response area. PSFPD is an HSI (Health & Safety Institute) training center, offering ASHI (American Health & Safety Institute) certified classes including Community CPR and BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Community CPR (includes basic CPR and AED use)

  • This class is for individuals who are not healthcare providers or professional rescuers but who desire, or are required, to be certified in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). The skills in this class include: opening airway, rescue breathing, choking for the conscious and unconscious victim, and CPR

BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers

  • This class is designed for individuals in the healthcare or professional rescuer field that are required to have completed a professional-level basic life support training course. If you are working in a hospital setting, are in EMT or Nursing school this is the class for you

When the heart stops beating blood stops flowing throughout the body. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is when a person performs chest compressions and breathing into a patient who has no pulse or who isn’t breathing. Chest compressions combined with breathing into the patient will carry the now oxygenated blood throughout the body and into the brain. CPR acts like an artificial heart moving the blood rich in oxygen to the brain.

The patient’s survival rate increases as they receive CPR, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and if Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrives quickly.

Being able to apply lifesaving techniques during an emergency until first responders arrive can mean the difference between life and death.
